Observations Of An ASIC Design

Not mine but I know/knew the author on a design team I was part of at a company – “Semiconductor Design Engineering” – we both worked for. Such a long time ago the year still had 19s in it.

The project needs a new design.
They think they want an ASIC.
Their reputation’s on the line.
They want to fab it real quick.

They need someone to build the chip
Someone who knows the score
On whom they can crack the whip
One who’s done twelve chips or more.

And if the circuit has success
More chips will be forthcoming
How many can only be a guess
But business will be humming.

The time away the clock does tick
They want to add some changes
The circuit’s gone from thin to thick
It needs to have new ranges.

Our best designer’s looking sick
He can’t find time to dine
There’s not a problem he can’t lick
Please, pass the jug of wine!

So now he’s done, the chip’s complete
No more he need be hassled
The time constraints he even beat
Too bad the program’s cancelled.
