The World Is Analog, The Model Is Digital

The analog art show no sign of yielding to the dodo’s fate. The emergence and maturation of monolithic processing finesse has perhaps lagged a bit behind the growth of the binary business, but whereas digital precision is forever bounded by bits, there is no limit excepting universal hiss to the ultimate accuracy and functional variety of simple analog circuits.

The world is analog, the model is digital.

Hi! I’m Dave. My job is/was to join the two.

I’m officially retired but all that means is I don’t get paid by a corporation and I set my own schedule.
The work remains the same; I still love doing this stuff.

Once upon a time …

My primary interest is developing measurement networks; the circuitry between the transducer and the ADC: doing what I can to minimize GIGO.

I live in Idaho. I like it here.

I’m an electronics engineer with a doctorate in electromagnetic geophysics who specializes in analog signal processing networks.

Seems a strange combination, eh? Many have thought so. But “geophysical instrumentation” describes so much of my work.

Most unusual? I was once an MSHA-qualified underground coal miner – as a necessary part of my professional work.

Why Geophysics?

These are some articles and notes of mine from my years in this line of work. This is not a blog site; no regularly scheduled postings. I’ll be adding more as I sort through my library in between the other things I get involved in. I’m still building the site – some things may not work as expected. Oops!

Drop a note – I like talking shop. That and access to databases is what I miss most about not “working”.

Warning: I’ve been known to be an ornery right-wing curmudgeon at times, especially on the east coast (or west coast as well for that matter). I’m more a centrist in Idaho. It doesn’t affect my work but it might my opinions.
